EVEREST BASE CAMP 

TREK SUMMARY

Day 1  Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from the Peak Explorations team holding a sign with the group name, Peak Explorations, at the arrivals hall. After a brief introduction, you will be escorted to your hotel. After check in, and welcome drinks you will be free to explore around the backpacker haven of Thamel.

Day 2  Kathmandu Sightseeing
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its mysterious doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hindu, Tibetan, Buddhist and Western influence in the Valley. The neighboring cities of Patan and Bhaktapur provide immense historical, cultural and religious significance. There will be a half day guided tour to the infamous Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century palace of 55 windows and Swoyambhunath “the monkey temple.” Prior to your departure, you will receive more information about the trip offered by an English-speaking guide to give you unique insights into the culture and architecture of each destination. There will be a welcome dinner for the group in the evening.

Day 3 Fly to Lukla (2850 m) & trek to Phakding (2650 m)
The flight to Lukla lands on a steep mountain runway and brings us to the start of our trek at the village of Lukla. After meeting the crew, we head up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and then stay overnight in the town of Phakding.

Day 4 Trek to Namche Bazaar (3450 m)

From Phakding, we cross and re-cross the river over an assortment of high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was established to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. We then take a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is the main trading village in the Khumbu region and boasts a lively Saturday market serving as a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La.

Day 5  Rest day in Namche Bazaar
Namche is tucked away between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu region and has an abundance of lodges, teashops and souvenir shops. It is an ideal place to spend a day while acclimating to the new altitude to prevent any health problems before heading off towards Tengboche. To acclimatize, you can visit either Khunde Hospital established by Sir Edmund Hillary or take a one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel above Namche for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. There are other excellent vantage points from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town.

Day 6 Trek to Tengboche (3870 m)
From Namche, the trail contours to the side of the valley, high above the Dudh Kosi. We get our first really good views of the great peaks of the Khumbu including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. After passing several villages and numerous teashops, we descend steeply to a bridge over the river at Phunki Tenga. The village is an ideal stopover for lunch where we can rest before making the steep climb to Tengboche. Although the hike up the zigzag path is tiring, it presents us with many beautiful sights of rhododendron bushes with beautiful birds and superb mountain scenery. Tengboche is famous for its legendary monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. A spectacular panorama of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam waits upon arrival at the guesthouse.

Day 7 Trek to Pheriche (4252 m)
We will descend downhill through a forest while crossing the Imja Khola and climb steadily to the village of Pangboche. This village is directly opposite of Ama Dablam (6,856 m), and has exceptional views of the mountain, with the gompa, mani walls and scattered pine trees in the foreground. After another two hours of walking, we will arrive at Pheriche.

Tengboche Altitude : 12,700 ft ( 3870 meters)
Total Climbing : 1250 ft ( 382 meter)


Day 8 Rest day in Pheriche (4252 m)
A day for rest and acclimatization spent wandering up the valley to look at the Tshola Tsho Lake and the perpendicular walls of Cholatse and Tawache. We will scale the ridge overlooking Dingboche for the view of the Imja Valley and the incredible south face of Mt.Lhotse.

Day 9 Trek to Lobuche (4930 m)
We continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Tawache. We then turn right and begin a steep climb towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. The teahouse at Duglha will provide a good spot to rest and have lunch. The trail continues to zigzag up through the boulders of the glacier's terminal moraine. At the top of this climb there are many stone Cairns, built as memorials to the many Sherpas who lost their lives climbing Mt Everest. The path then climbs gently along the glacier, to eventually reach the cluster of houses at Lobuche.

Day 10 Trek to Gorakshep (5184 m); then to KalaPattar (5554 m)
To reach our next stop, Kala Pattar, we continue on the Khumbu Glacier. The trail offers superb views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path is forced to rise to cross a tributary glacier. We stop for lunch at at Gorak Shep and enjoy the views. Later in the afternoon, we make our way to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Pattar [5554m]. As the light begins to fade we stroll back to our camp at Gorak Shep and have an early night in preparation for our trek to Everest Base Camp the following day.

Same day Gorakshep to Kala Patter hiking
walk : 2 hours to climb and plus one hour 30 min to return back to Gorakshep excluding the time spend in Kalapatter .
Distance 1.5 km plus 1.5 km 
Kalapatter Elevation: 18,208 ft. ( 5554 meter)
Gorakshep Altitude . 17007 feet ( 5184 meter)
Total Climbing : 1201 ft. ( 366 meter) 

After lunch, you will climb to KalaPattar the same day for the lovely view of Tempting Everest The late afternoon or evening are the best time for pictures because the light is better at sunset, you'll get the last rays of light on Everest, and if you're lucky, you'll get some alpine glow and that glorious Everest purple at sunset. In the morning, you don't have that light because the sun is rising behind Everest and when it finally clears the range, it's high in the sky. We suggest all the tourist to go to Kalapathar in the afternoon for the same purpose, since the light would lit the mountains during sunset, especially that beautiful Ama Dablam. 


Day 11 Trek to Everest Base Camp (5357 m)
A very early start is required to reach the Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, we can take a higher route to get a spectacular view of the Khumbu icefall and the route to the South Col. We return to either Gorak Shep or Lobuche.

Walk : 3-4 hour up to Everest Base Camp and coming down 2 hours 
Distance: 4.5 km total walk round-trip

Day 12 Trek to Pengboche (3985 m)
Today’s trek is mostly downhill as we retrace our steps to Duglha and descend to Pheriche, we will arrive at The Himalayan Rescue Association that serves as a trekker’s aid post which makes for an interesting visit. After lunch, we cross the Khumbu Khola on a wooden suspension bridge and follow the Imja Khola to the village of Pangboche.

Gorakshep to Pangboche

Gorakshep Altitude : 17007 feet ( 5184 meter)
Pangboche Altitude: 13074ft / 3985 m
Elevation Gain : -3933 feet -1199m 


Day 13 Trek to Namche Bazaar (3450 m)
We continue to follow the river and, after crossing it, climb back up through birch and rhododendron forest to Tengboche. The town offers views of Himalayan giants Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku, views whose memories will last a lifetime. We will continue our descent to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi. At Phunki Tenga, we get to see the water driven prayer wheels, before making our way back to Namche.

Day 14 Trek to Lukla (2850 m)
Our final day's trekking follows the Dudh Kosi down to Lukla. As our trekking is completed, we arrange a party with our sherpa guides and porters. We sample some local beer and invite you to try out some traditional Sherpa dances. This makes for a memorable night and serves as an unforgettable way to end your trip

Day 15 Fly back to Kathmandu
After saying goodbye to Lukla and entire Everest region you will again be in Kathmandu after half hour flight and the day you can spend resting or do more sightseeing.  

Day 16 Fly home.
