MONGOLIA'S NOMADIC MIGRATION
& EAGLE FESTIVAL
(women only trip)
FIXED DEPARTURE DATE FOR 2020:
This is a special women empowerment trip for Women's History Month, March 2020.
As part of Peak Explorations' mission to normalize the roles of women in the trekking tourism industry, we are partnering with local indigenous families in the Altai Mountains of Mongolia for women to experience first-hand the culture, history and lives of local female nomads and eagle huntresses. We will be partaking in an actual migration of nomadic families and as a plus we will be walking with women eagle hunters who will be competing at the Eagle Festival at the end of our migration!
This is a special all women trek with female nomads and eagle hunters as we dive into the culture, history and lives of a local indigenous group in the Altai Mountains of Mongolia. We will walk side by side with the families on an actual nomadic migration. Nomadic migration is a form of pastoralism when livestock are herded in order to find fresh pastures on which to graze. The main reasons for the nomadic migration include herding animals that need a fresh pasture or warmer-lower landscape for winter.
True nomads follow an irregular pattern of movement, in contrast with transhumans where seasonal pastures are fixed. The herded livestock include sheep- goats, yak-cattle, horses and camels. Altai Nomadic people do a migration 2 times per year, one in winter and another in the autumn. We will be doing the migration in the winter time.
